Apartment Inspiration: A Living Room from Scratch

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a great weekend. It was another whirlwind weekend here of unpacking, furniture shopping and trying to get things organized in our new home. The living room is probably the most unsettled – we’ve only had one piece of furniture delivered, so the rest is a combination of boxes and old bookcases we’re considering replacing. Today I wanted to share our plans for the living room, so you can see where we’re going with it.

We already bought the Aiden couch and matching chair from Crate and Barrel, we’re just waiting for the couch to be delivered in the new few weeks. The leather chair is the BF’s selection, with my recommendation that we get it in a deep red leather. (The red swatch you see on the bottom left is the color we’re going for) I’m not sure who the designer is, but we initially saw it at Bloomingdales and Lillian August. Over the weekend, we picked up the Clairemont Pedestal Table from Crate and Barrel, which we got with a significant mark down since it was a floor model. (Score!) The lamps are something we scooped up atTarget over the Thanksgiving weekend when we had a car. They add a little more color to the space.

We have our hearts set on using a steamer trunk for a coffee table, we’re just looking for one that is a good fit both in style and size. I’d also like to add a rug to the space to warm it up a little. We’re thinking something that is very plush or shag-like. For the wall behind the couch, I think a very dominant picture is in order. I’d love something that showcases good architecture or clean lines, but I think we’ll pick one that has a blend of both our styles.

The opposite wall will have a small media center and bookcases on either side the flank it. I think I’m looking for glass and metal book cases, but we haven’t found exactly what we’re looking for just yet.  Slowly but surely, the room is coming together. It has a touch of modern, traditional and rustic, but I think it will feel like the perfect blend once it’s finished.

More tomorrow on how to blend two (or more!) styles together when you’re decorating.
